The StubHub double dip: one event, both halves of the credit

The Sapphire Reserve's StubHub credit resets at midyear and year-end, and it triggers on when you buy, not when the show is. Put those two facts together and a group of four can capture both halves on a single event.

The Sapphire Reserve's StubHub credit comes in two halves, up to $150 from January through June and up to $150 from July through December, and each half expires with no rollover. Most people treat that as two separate chores. The sharper read is that it is a timing opportunity, because the credit keys off when your purchase posts, not when the event happens.

That one detail unlocks the play. Say four of you are going to a show or a game a few months out. Rather than buying all four tickets in one order, consider splitting it: two tickets bought just before the reset date, two bought just after. Same event, same seats section, two purchases landing in different credit windows, and up to $300 captured instead of $150. The December 31 to January 1 boundary is the next one on the calendar, and the same move works at midyear.

The buy-now-for-later angle works on its own, too. Tickets bought in December for a March event draw from December's window, so a thin second-half balance can still fund next year's plans.

A few mechanics decide whether this goes smoothly, based on cardholder reports through mid-2026. The credit requires a one-time activation in your Chase account before you buy, and an unactivated purchase is just a purchase. Taxes and fees count toward the credit, which helps smaller orders. StubHub gift cards, on the other hand, have not been triggering it, so buy tickets, not balance.

Then there is the stack, which is where this gets fun. Paying through Paze at StubHub checkout has been earning bonus points on several Chase cards on top of the credit, and routing your visit through a shopping portal like Rakuten has spiked to 10x or higher on the same purchase during limited-time events. Be realistic about that second one: the headline portal rates tend to run for a single day rather than a season, and the everyday rate is a fraction of them. Each layer is a separate promotion that can end whenever, so treat the stack as a bonus you check for rather than the reason you buy.

As always with reseller platforms, prices move, and none of this is a reason to buy tickets you do not want. It is simply a reason to think about when you click buy.

This credit comes with the Chase Sapphire Reserve, offers up to $150 per half-year on StubHub (up to $300 a year), and resets June 30 and December 31, with the mechanics above reflecting cardholder reports as of mid-2026. Full Deck tracks both halves and their deadlines, so when the boundary play is available, you will see it coming.

Issuers change these terms without notice, and what worked last quarter sometimes does not work today. Treat this as a starting point, test small, and check your card's current terms.
