Most people treat credit reset dates as deadlines: spend it or lose it. The sharper way to see them is as boundaries with value on both sides, because a purchase placed just before midnight draws from one pool and a purchase placed just after draws from a fresh one. Here is the boundary calendar for the next twelve months, and what each date makes possible.
September 30 closes the third quarter. The quarterly credits, Resy and Lululemon on the Platinum among them, each expire their slice that night. The play here is simple spend-down: a Toast gift card from a Resy restaurant or an in-store Lululemon card captures a quarter you were about to lose (cardholders report both working as of mid-2026, test small).
December 31 is the main event, three boundaries stacked in one night. The quarterly credits close their final window. The semiannual credits, StubHub and Exclusive Tables dining on the Sapphire Reserve, the Hilton Aspire's resort credit halves, close their second half. And the annual credits, airline fees, Dell, Adobe, travel credits, hit their once-a-year cliff. Everything unspent from all three tiers vanishes at once, which is why December deserves an evening of attention no other month gets.
January 1 is where it gets fun, because every one of those pools refills simultaneously. This is the double-dip moment: four concert tickets split two-and-two across the New Year boundary can capture both halves of a StubHub credit on one event. A hotel stay for spring booked in late December uses this year's hotel credit, and a second stay booked in January uses next year's. A December dinner and a January dinner at an Exclusive Tables restaurant draw from different halves. Same wallet, twice the payout, entirely within the rules, since these credits key off when the purchase posts.
March 31 and June 30 repeat the pattern at smaller scale: quarterly windows close at both, and the semiannual credits turn over at midyear, making June 30 to July 1 the year's second double-dip night.
One caveat: cardmember-year credits, like the Sapphire Preferred's hotel credit, run on your own anniversary rather than the calendar, so their boundary is personal to you.
This calendar spans your Amex, Chase, and Bank of America premium cards, and the two big nights are December 31 and June 30, when spend-down and double-dip meet. Full Deck tracks every window on every card, so each boundary shows up on your radar before it passes, not after.
Issuers change these terms without notice, and what worked last quarter sometimes does not work today. Treat this as a starting point, test small, and check your card's current terms.
